A couple friend and fellow foodies told us a few weeks ago to check out the new coffee shop in town called Zatazza Café located in Jaro and that their pastries are really good. But, as “super-duper” busy parents like we are, it took us almost two weeks before we finally checked out the place. (Actually, it was the need to relax that enticed us to really go there! A slice of cake would take away the stress.
)
Zatazza Café is beautifully tucked along Del Carmen Street in Jaro, Iloilo City. You can reach the place easily since one end of Del Carmen Street is fronting West Visayas State University Medical Center (WVSUMC). (I’ll give directions in the end, don’t worry!)
Once there, you can find a cozy place with traditionally inspired interior. The place outside is a bit dim to add a more dramatic atmosphere, yet getting inside will take you to a lovely and warm ambiance that will really let you stay for a while.
As a fanatic of beautiful and intricate interiors, I really adore the brick design in the corners and since we choose to hang out on their bar-like chairs and table humbly set in one end, we felt we were in the most ideal spot inside the coffee shop. The retro design plus the mini reggae band was a huge design setter.
So much with the lovely interiors… Let’s go to their pastries! (Yum!)
Caramel Cheesecake is simply delicious. The caramel swirl on top is like eating a very soft caramel candy and eating it along with the cheesecake gives that perfect blend of sweet and sour that makes such cheesecake not an ordinary one.
Coffee selections are quite extensive with iced coffee options and hot alternatives, excellent fit for the cold season. We ordered the Hot Cafe Americano but somehow it does not taste close to our favorite brew at Bluejays.
Next we had their Lemon Squares, literally lemon cake in square size that have that sour “lemony” after taste. Its texture is actually not that soft but leaving a strong taste in every bite. (Great side for a hot cup of coffee.)
Another must try is their Rhum Cake, a sweet chiffon cake drizzled with chocolate syrup, perfect for people with sweet tooth. I suggest ordering it reheated since it tasted much better (though you do have to turn on your patience button if you do! But, trust me, it’s worth it!)
Other food offers include pasta, sandwiches and rice meals, yet there are only a few options.
Our friends had actually tasted other pastries than what we had that night. They suggested the chocolate cake, which was there but we didn’t opt for it. (Love chocolate so much but not that much when made into a cake
) Another is the Food for the Gods (a huge favorite of mine), which was also there when we visited the coffee shop but my mind and eyes were both set on the lemon squares. (Got to try it next time!)
Zatazza Café, a really good place to hang out, de-stress or simply to have a nice cup of coffee. Be coming back again!
