The famous fried chicken of Sunburst continues to uphold its legacy of bringing good tasting fried chicken not only within the limits of where it has originated but also to some places in the country. Since 1971, diners usually find their way towards the entrance of Sunburst.
Dining at Sunburst’s first restaurant had somehow been a pleasure for us. Sunburst Fried Chicken in Iligan City is situated in a two-storey building along Tino Badelles Street, Mahayahay, Iligan City, where you can find a relaxing restaurant with more or less ten sets of tables and chairs in a warm and homey ambiance. Entering the vicinity would take you back to the classical days of the 80’s where restaurants embellish their tables with printed tablecloth atop a white cloth and chairs are made of wooden materials with solid cushions. Nevertheless, preserving such premise would remind you of how long it has already been serving its devotees, who would constantly come back for its Fried Chicken.
Tasting the famous Fried Chicken of Sunburst actually made me feel like I’m at home. The juicy taste of chicken meat along with its crispy skin-fry creates the perfect complement to a cup of steamed rice, making one piece of fried chicken no longer enough to satisfy a good meal. Completing one set of meal are the large slices of deep-fried fries and chilled coleslaw. (I actually love the chilled coleslaw… the add-on to my chicken meal is not enough – want to have more!
)
Sunburst Sunny Solos
Pancit Canton
Sunburst’s fried chicken meals are available in solo sets or prime cuts (big servings.) Sunny Solos, 1 piece of chicken, will give you either the thigh part (php96.00) or the ribkeel, chicken breast (php99.00.) Other solo sets include the Sunduo (2 pieces) for only php136.00 and the Classic (3 pieces) for only php178.00. Each set comes with a cup of steamed rice, fries and chilled coleslaw.
Aside from the specialty of the house, another must-try at Sunburst is the Pancit Canton, which is similar to Chinese-style canton you would normally find in Chinese restaurants. The big noodles and lots of veggies and seafood bits on a thick sauce can in fact qualify for a heavy meal. For only php118.00, you can have a regular bowl of Pancit Canton, good for two to three persons.
On to the desserts – the first time we went to Mindanao, I was instantly a fan of Durian Cheesecake we had at Bluegre. I love the sweet and smooth taste of cheesecake with durian bits (although truth be told, I am not a fan of durian fruit
.)
Durian Cheesecake
Sunburst also offers Durian Cheesecake and imagine the smile on my face upon knowing it (can’t wait for dessert!) It has bits of durian fruit on smooth and dense cream cheese with durian caramel swirls on top. (lip-smacking!)
If you cannot go to Iligan, you can still try Sunburst’s fried chicken in other branches within Visayas and Mindanao.
Sunburst Fried Chicken –Iligan City – We will surely be coming back!
