Guimaras Mangoes: Mango Eat-All-You-Can at Manggahan Festival

Its unique flavor and sweet fragrance are some of the reasons why many people would love to eat mangoes. But, on top of all those satisfying goodness is its nutritionally-rich benefits that help in promoting good health. Needless to say, mango is also an excellent source of vitamins and minerals including vitamin A, potassium, vitamin C, pre-biotic dietary fiber and antioxidant compounds.

Anyone who wants to eat mango can do so in ad nauseam capacity at the Mango Eat-All-You-Can in Guimaras during its annual Manggahan Festival. Held every summer, the Manggahan Festival is a showcase of the cultural heritage of the province of Guimaras specifically highlighting on its famed “sweet mangoes”, arts and crafts as well as traditions. Through this one-of-a-kind event, the province continues to advocate to its title of being the “Mango Capital of the Philippines.”

The abundance of mangoes in the province had become more evident with its Mango Eat-All-You-Can, where locals and visitors alike can have their limitless fill of ripe and green mangoes. For 30-minutes, anyone can fulfill their cravings for ripe mangoes, ripe mangoes with ibos (steamed glutinous rice wrapped in young coconut leaves) and green mango with bagoong (fermented fish or shrimps and salt) at a fixed price.

All you can eat ripe mangoes are priced at Php70.00 while pairing it with ibos will let you pay Php85.00. All you can eat green mangoes with bagoong is available at a price of Php40.00. (A good deal for those craving for something sour :) )

The scene is also very appealing with bamboo chairs in small tents and live music featuring Manggahan Festival’s theme song to give a more enjoyable mood to the participants. What makes it so amusing is the gluttonous ambiance of people eating heaps of whole mangoes in one sitting. In fact, you can eat around six whole mangoes in 30 minutes. (We did so! :) )

Once you have your fill to a satisfying mango buffet, try also their ripe and green mango shake that is widely spread all over the festival area. You can even have a good lunch in one of the restaurants in their foodfest, where we actually found an interesting pizza version – the Mango Pizza. (Will give more details soon :) )
