A catchy and a good name – that is what caught our attention to the sign we saw when riding a jeepney along UPV – Iloilo City campus. We then plan to check the place out and fortunately, it was something worth it.
Captain Dad’s Resto is a fastfood cum fine-dining restaurant (as they would claim it) specializing in burgers, pasta and some rice meals. Although it was raining that day, we did not hesitate to grab a snack at this rather “concealed” restaurant.
First on the list is the specialty of the house – the Captain Dad’s Burger. It is a huge burger (reminds me of Perri Todd’s, albeit smaller), great for two people (if not so hungry) that cost only Php85.00. The burger patty is uniquely created with fine bits of meat, cooked to a perfect tender. The mouth-watering stack includes the flat cheese, bits of sliced pickles, lettuce, bacon and now my favorite, mustard sauce. In fact, this is the first time that I had tried eating a burger with mustard as the dominant sauce and it was simply delicious.
Definitely, it would not be complete without the pasta dish so we tried their own version of Spaghetti with one piece Chicken on the side. The spaghetti is much like your good homemade pasta with just the right amount of sauce and cheese.
What we love the most is the Fried Chicken and gravy. Though, the chicken may seem small, the taste is largely appetizing – not your ordinary homemade fried chicken. To top it off, the gravy is indeed tasty. Though I may not be a fan of gravy except for the classic gravy mix of KFC, I may be flipping my coin on this one. 
What’s more, the spaghetti plate includes a side of fries topped with mustard sauce and would only cost you Php68.00.
Finishing our meals is their own concoction of cool refreshments particularly the Orange Blush. It is a simple orange juice with lots of pulp and strawberry syrup at the bottom. It costs Php30.00 per glass.
To add, there are also all-day affordable rice meals that may cost at least Php49.00 with free drinks.
Overall, the dining experience was great. The place is simply beautiful with a relaxing ambiance, some comfy chairs and a lovely themed interior.

Captain Dad’s Resto is located on the first floor of Soriano Building along West Avenue in Molo, Iloilo City, beside JD bakeshop, just across UPV-Iloilo City campus. The building is inside a compound where you need to go in several steps before you can have a full view of the restaurant. To guide you, there is a huge banner of Captain Dad’s placed on the side of a building where the Divine Cakes pastry shop is located.
