The Taste of Balamban Liempo

Talk about exclusively appetizing grilled pork belly and most people would effortlessly say Balamban Liempo. With its distinctive blend of profuse flavors, patrons and new-tasters attest to its inimitable taste.

Given its one-of-a-kind rendition to the traditional way of cooking grilled pork belly, Balamban Liempo created a craze in Cebu that now desires to capture the challenging taste of Ilonggos. In fact, it aims to surpass the long-established savor of lechon or whole roasted pork. But, what makes Balamban Liempo unique from other typical liempo you can see in similar places or perhaps to the accustomed taste of lechon?

The more evident wealth of herbs on the liempo even after grilling makes it more tempting. You could actually see the adjunct of herbs, which basically gives its mouth-watering appeal. Not surprisingly, a flavorsome aroma hints not a slight hesitation in instantly devouring it.

Now, eating such liempo will propose more options. First, either have it to go or to stay and eat in their rather limited and unfussy dining space. Second, dip it in the usual Filipino sawsawan made of vinegar, soy sauce, calamansi and chili for added flavor or let it fill your mouth with its fundamental flavors. Lastly, go solo or paired with steamed plain rice for a total meal package ending in a comforting bliss.

Each order of Balamban Liempo would cost you Php185.00 for about 650 grams.

Nevertheless, much like any other liempo, the Balamban liempo requires instant consumption as the skin may lose its crunch after an extended exposure.

Chicken-lovers would also find proclivity in the place with their distinct version of lechon manok. Balambanok, as what they call it, is one whole roasted chicken spiced with the same flavors of their liempo. It is reasonably tasty and in a more augmented flavor, which you can have for Php165.00 for 1 whole chicken.

Pot meals are also offered for a minimum of 5 persons. You can have ¼ liempo with rice and drink for Php70.00 each or a quarter size liempo with rice and drink for Php90.00.

The liempo looks really good. Do they have a branch here in Manila?
