Impression starts at first glance. We form different stances on what we see and often heard in people. Like a well-off restaurant seems too expensive to dine in hence, people will not dare to go inside (they do expect to shell out twice their budget for just a few meal).
This day was a surprise when Bluejay Coffee and Deli decided to create a new set of different delectable meals that are twice the taste from the usual but half the size of your expected price. Introducing the three “biggie” meals from Bluejay: Checkered Toast, Chef Burger and Baked Penne.
We got the chance to try each of these tasty meals. At first heard, it was just a regular burger, toast, or pasta. Expecting it to be like the usual taste, we were somehow proved wrong at the first bite on each food.
Chef Burger

The Chef Burger was the first in line. It appeared like the regular size burger with some slices of tomatoes and lettuce, overflowing dressing, the well-cooked brown patty, all sandwiched in the regular bun. But deceivingly, this burger is uniquely created since each ingredient was cooked just right and tastes better than the usual burger.
What makes this burger distinct is the burger patty. It looks like your regular patty but the taste was really good. It is so crispy on the outside and the beef was juicy and soft on the inside. It has that exclusive taste of homemade cooking with a good edge.
The tomatoes and lettuce were great too. These add some flavor to the overall taste of the burger yet not dominating the flavor of the patty. I really do not like veggies in my burger that are soiled or have that tang of being overripe.
All the good tastes of the the Chef Burger looks heavy on the pocket. Yet, you will be amazed when you discover that this tasty snack is worth only 49 pesos (including a big glass of iced tea).
Baked Penne

The Baked Penne was overloaded with baked cheese. Unfortunately, it was not served hot to us that time. It tasted great despite the cold pasta, cheese and sauce yet it is better served hot. The baked cheese covers the penne pasta and the sauce inside looks so mouth watering. Since the baked penne was not hot upon serving, it somehow made the pasta stiff.
Overall, every ingredient, from the penne pasta to the cheese melt, was very delightful. The taste of the pasta sauce provides a spicy and sweet blend, just right to keep you eating more. It is not your usual flavorof Italian sauce since the spice gave it a good twist. The baked cheese melt was just divine. It was perfectly melted cheese. You can have this ideal meal for only 88 pesos (exclusive of drinks).
Checkered Toast

As for dessert, what else will be perfect than a sweet taste of homemade chocolate? And you will surely love it together with the sweet, overflowing caramel sauce. The Checkered Toast, as the name imply, is a toasted big slice of loaf covered with caramel and chocolate sauce that forms a checkered design on top.
One thing I would definitely say about the toast is “I love it”. I love the sweet taste of caramel and chocolate sauce, ideally made for this buttered toast, and the mix of both sauces was really tasty. Try combining the caramel and the chocolate covered toast in one bite and you will surely know why it was combined as such.
For only 30 pesos, you will have this perfect dessert in your meal. If you like it combo, you can have the Checkered Toast with Bluejay’s exclusive coffee for only 80 pesos.
I tried the Cafe Americano with the toast and it was perfect. I am not really a fan of black coffee or coffee with cream and no sugar, but I was stunned by Bluejay’s coffee. It was really good.
Where else can you find such delicious, heavy loaded meals that are easy on the pocket plus the luxury of dining in one comfortable and high-end coffee shop?
