14 Café: A Korean Restaurant in Iloilo

email

We decided to have a less expensive early dinner at JD Roadhouse after feeling a bit disappointed on not getting my fixed laptop having been late in arriving at the computer repair shop. (We arrived past 5:30 pm and they closed at 5:30 pm. lol!) Yet, our plan to dine at JD Roadhouse suddenly deviated to try dining at 14 Café instead. It is located at San Mars Point along General Luna Street, just across Dos Marias Pizzeria, where array of restobars, like Crammers Cafe and Fort Manokan are found.

14 Café is a small sized bistro offering good Korean cuisine in Iloilo. The place can fit only three medium sized tables inside, all lined up in a narrow space. Yet, it was nice, a bit cozy and very clean.

We were actually planning to try their iced waffle since it’s the ad outside the restaurant that caught our attention. Unfortunately, the iced waffle is no longer available. In addition to our dismay, we were told that the store itself is closing this Saturday (August 14, 2010). (Our first time to try there would technically mean our last.)

Nevertheless, we still want to try what 14 Café has to offer. We ordered their rice topping meal, a cup of coffee and a plate of pizza. Their rice topping ranges from different flavors and includes a large glass of iced tea for only 79 pesos. I ordered the Kimchi rice topping and Junnjun had the Bulgogi rice topping. (We actually forgot the free large glass of iced tea, hence, the extra cup of coffee. :) )

Although I haven’t tasted authentic Kimchi yet, I do believe that it is spicy and dominant of Chinese cabbage. Surprisingly, the Kimchi rice toppings feels like eating a real Kimchi dish with rice. It is really spicy and full of flavors mixed with domineering Chinese cabbage pieces and other vegetables. I was truly amazed when I first tasted it since it was really good. Junnjun was not enthralled with his Bulgogi rice topping since it was not at all exclusively tasty. Yet, it can fill your craving for a nice dinner.

After our good dinner, we indulged in their Crispy Pizza, a medium sized pizza cut into eight slices topped with unique cheese sauce, some fried bacon bits, beef crumbs and a few slices of onions and garlic. I guess they were being literal with their food names since the pizza is in fact crispy. The taste was good with an overbearing flavor of fried pork.

Overall, we were satisfied with our decent early dinner. It is a pleasant dining in a nice private place at a price not heavy in our pockets. Regrettably, we only have a few days left to try again 14 Café Korean Restaurant.
